A few weeks ago, I was thrilled to spend an evening dining with my old pal Pete and new acquaintance Amanda B. Johnson. She is a digital currency expert and is working on several projects with Dash.

I complained to her about my ignorance in understanding digital currencies, and she shared with me her series Dash School. Every once in a while someone brings up the idea that certain "excise" taxes, such as taxes applied only to certain activities or products, count as being voluntary because they are fairly easy to avoid (don't engage in that activity, and you won't owe that tax), and that taxation, in that case, is therefore not theft.
But this is not the case. Is there some evil force that magically is a threat to them but not to me? Where are the leftists calling for disarming the mercenaries known as "law enforcers"?

"These are weapons of war!"

So who are the cops at war with when they carry AR-15's?

6-12-16 - Larken Rose:

This might sound odd, especially to people who are accustomed to the usual paradigm spewed by the media, but it's true: I carry a firearm out of love, not out of fear or hatred.

Yes, I spend a lot of time loudly and vehemently condemning injustice and aggression. I do that BECAUSE I value and love peace and justice. If I didn't care about the innocent, I wouldn't rail against, and be armed against, those who try to harm the innocent. (I think the likelihood of having to defend MYSELF with a gun is a lot lower than the likelihood of me having to defend someone ELSE with my gun.)

The vast majority of gun owners I know do not think, "I can't wait to kill someone!" Instead, they think, "Killing someone, even if justified, would be completely horrible. But I will do it if I have to in order to protect the innocent." That attitude and mindset comes from LOVE, not hatred.

Now, if you personally are NOT willing to take on the risk, burden and responsibility of being a protector of the innocent, that's your choice. But kindly refrain from demonizing those of us who are.
- Larken Rose

6-12-16 - Larken Rose

Soooooo…. an anarchist running for President. Let’s consider the possible outcomes, shall we?

1) At the time of the election, nowhere near a majority of Americans are anarchists, so the anarchist loses, and can’t do anything “within the system.” By playing the game and “participating in the process,” the anarchist also validates the game that was just lost, thus implying legitimacy to the new statist regime.

2) At the time of the election, a majority, or at least a significant minority, of the population is anarchistic. Most of them, being anarchists, don’t believe in the legitimacy of “government” and therefore won’t vote. However, they also won’t NEED to vote, because when 50%—or even 10%—of the population stops believing in the myth of “authority,” they can simply disobey the ruling class out of existence (with actual resistance being optional).

Is there some third option I don't see? Because the first two make such an endeavor seem drastically pointless.

6-12-16 - Larken Rose

The best way--damn near the only way--to stop bad people from committing violence against innocents, is to have GOOD people able and willing to use defensive FORCE to stop them. This isn't really debatable.

"We need a law!" Words on paper? And then what? Guys with GUNS to enforce it? Congrats, you just acknowledged that BRUTE FORCE is necessary to stop violent aggressors. Unfortunately, you also chose to rely on professional aggressors to "protect" you, which is both logically and historically asinine, AND constitutes advocating aggression against lots of people who haven't harmed or attacked anyone. But hey, at least you got the first part right.

If you're a good person who is tired of hearing about other good people being victimized, maybe you should BECOME one of the good people who has the ability and willingness to use FORCE to stop the bad guys. Nothing else will stop them. Why would you assume it's always someone ELSE'S responsibility to do it?

By William Norman Grigg

LaVoy Finicum, who was shot at a roadblock by Oregon State Troopers and left to bleed to death in the snow, was not a violent criminal. He and his colleagues from the group calling itself Citizens for Constitutional Freedom were traveling to John Day, Oregon to organize political resistance to federal control over lands in the western United States.

After trying to run the roadblock, Finicum plowed his vehicle into a snowbank. He exited with his hands in the air, staggering in the snow before making a motion with his right hand that the FBI claims was an effort to grab a handgun. Another possibility is that Finicum, as some witnesses claim, was shot while his hands were raised in a posture of surrender, and that his subsequent movements were involuntary.

The carefully planned ambush, which displayed detailed intelligence regarding the plans of Finicum and his friends, was a joint operation between the FBI and the Oregon State Police. It was not carried out in defense of persons or property, but to enforce the will of those in control of ... READ MORE
When Hitler was in control, he required special license for people of most professions. Even something like hair-cutting was regulated, and a person had to have a license to cut hair in exchange for money.

Hitler cited "hygiene" as his excuse to collect money and have even greater control over all aspects of his citizen's lives, 'after all, we don't want little children to get lice." Like Marxists, Hitler recognized capitalism's existence, and like them, he did not want to leave citizens free to pursue their happiness, with risks and returns being uncertain.

Of course, all intelligent observers know that Hitler and other similar mentalities don't REALLY care about someone getting hair-bugs ... it is about control, and of course he was supported by barber schools and the government licensing board as well as many established barbers who welcomed this artificial barrier to entry.

There's a big difference between: 1) applying logic to evidence in order to reach a reasonable conclusion, and; 2) trying to mash together some lame excuse for continuing to believe whatever bogus crap you were taught when you were younger. A prime example comes from those who try to deny that taxation is theft... READ MOREOpenly Voluntaryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10239494869142915755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1646083989314942103.post-74935323277878697022016-03-17T14:45:00.001-07:002016-03-17T14:46:49.372-07:00People who say they are proud to pay "their taxes" are lying. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I appreciate your interest in philosophy. The path I have taken since 2008 has been a
wonderful one, and I feel so much more enlightened than I did for the first 34 years of my life. I must warn you that ignorance
IS bliss. While I feel far less
ignorant, following an honest path free of pre-conceived notions is not popular

hundreds/thousands of hours sifting through things, and I will share with you
fewer than 80 hours worth of them. You are awake

suggest not discussing it with folks or calling it “Anarchy” until you have well

So, there are different schools of thought in
macroeconomics. Most people, both
liberal and conservative in the US don’t REALLY understand or think about
economics. They mostly fall into the Keynesian

interested conservatives and entry-level-liberty folks like the Chicago School,
which is most famous for Milton Friedman.
As one uses logic and takes things to deeper and more philosophically
consistent conclusions, many thinkers find themselves more in agreement with
Austrian Economics. Everything you need

Over the last 30+ years its ideas have been pushed, and became more formalized in Brazil in 1992. While it was published by the United Nations, proponents will hastily point out that it is non-binding and voluntarily implemented, more of a "suggested blueprint." In this way it is much more like NAMBLA, in that no one of forced to carry our the ideas presented, but it is offered as a "best practices" provider and as a support group. Groups like ICLEI bring it to individual communities.

Wait a minute, what is Agenda 21 really about? Agenda 21 essentially says that the way humans have been conducting themselves thus far is inappropriate and that in order to be sustainable, people must live differently. Sounds like an OK idea, right? So what is "sustainability" from the UN's perspective? See the following Venn diagram:

So, of the three spheres included, the small portion in which there is an overlap is what they consider to be sustainable. To the person unfamiliar with logic, reason and the scientific method, this might sound reasonable. For those with an even elementary knowledge of philosophy, there are many blatant warning signals that pop up.

One of these alerts is that when examining something, a thinker out to be objective in regards to inclusion of issues. Consider the below chart, which is similar to the above:

Notice that only three "spheres" were included, which is very subjective. Environmental, Social and Economic were the three chosen factors, but what about the hundreds of others that might have been selected? To put ANY confidence in A21, one would first have to accept that indeed the three spheres are the three most important factors.

Even withing the overlapping areas, look at the chosen terms, for example in the "Economic-Social" area. Business Ethics, Fair Trade and Worker's rights are listed. Perhaps these three were suggested by Karl Marx before his death? The collectivist overtones are obvious, which is absolutely appropriate if a group of communist, socialist and democratic philosophers were having a think-tank weekend and chatting among themselves. What is NOT appropriate is for this philosophy to be forced upon other individuals..

My few paragraphs of argument above only make up about 1% of my argument against Agenda 21. Others have explained the elements of Agenda 21 far better than I am able. What they have not done is clearly explain why it is a bad thing.

____________________________________

Why is Agenda 21 and the philosophy surrounding it EVIL?

Human liberty. That is the answer. There are things in life that are perhaps "better for us" than others, but what makes life a fun and exciting life is the journey, including the making of mistakes and the challenges that arise because of this.

Let's take the example of a mother and her 9-yr-old son on a Saturday afternoon. For the sake of this argument we will assume that she is not a business owner and therefore has Saturday off from work. She and her some throw a ball in the park for an hour at his school, and as they walk home they are laughing and having a great time. They see an ice cream truck and decide to have an orange push-up. They continue walking along laughing and eating their treats.

From a sterile perspective, this was a good couple hours. The throwing of a ball is associated with competitive sports, an activity in which 1 team always loses and suffers the resulting mental anguish, which can lead to depression, suicide and in some cases even sadness. Next, they buy a corn sugar syrup food item, which scientists agree is not healthful and is in fact bad for one's body.

I ask you to consider this set of decisions the mother made, and the billions of other decisions made by the 7 billion of us on earth. Perhaps we could have made a "better" decision than the mother about the treat, perhaps a snack of fresh organic free-range kale would have been better? This is where the philosophic question of human freedom of choice comes into our conversation.

"Is it acceptable for some people who think they know better to force other people to change THEIR preferred behavior?"

I am passionate about human freedom. While I think that meth, bibles, beer, patchouli oil and other things and actions are not great, I think the greater bad would be be forcing a person not to use meth, read a bible, share a brew with pals at a pub, wear patchouli oil to a folk festival or participate in other nefarious activities.
It comes from the word anarchy and capitalism. Anarchy simply means “one without rulers” or self-ownership. In this context, Anarchy is against having a centralized state and advocates for freedom through self-governed societies with volunteer institutions. Then there is capitalism, which is largely misunderstood, yet is nothing more than free trade amongst individuals in which they own their own means of production. Combine the two and one has anarcho-capitalism, which is essentially voluntary free trade amongst people without any centralized control over the system. The ability to self-govern and trade freely is seen in this community as the ultimate form of human freedom.

With this idea of freedom in mind, the conference has morphed into the ultimate free-thinker conference merged with Austrian economics, which spans a wide variety of subjects from free market economic analysis, sound money investments, independent media, spiritual transcendence, psychedelics, crypto-currencies, proactive activism, rational physics, personal relationship dynamics, “conspiracy” knowledge (although I would call much of it hidden truths), and independent education, among others. Openly Voluntary Revitalized 2016

Hello friends.

Since 2013 this blog has not been very active, however with the addition of new authors, we look forward to posts at least once each week for the rest of 2016 under our new branding of "Openly Voluntary!"

As the founder of "Openly Voluntary" I will refer to myself as "Openly Voluntary One" and those wonderful thinkers that contribute will be numbered "Openly Voluntary Too." :) (OV1 & OV2)

We welcome your articles, videos and podcasts and would love to host them!
A few hundred or so people see the post, then it will never again be seen, except if the folks at the Utah Data Center. This is a waste!
On this post, I will from time to time add comments and original posts that he makes. I hope you enjoy them.
<span style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px;">My sense is that if you talk to a professional in any walk of life today, whether it’s technology or finance or medicine or law or government or whatever, you will hear a similar story of hollowness in their industry. The trappings, the facades, the faux this and faux that, the dislocation between public narrative and private practice … it’s everywhere.

The government needed animal fats for making explosives and for feeding soldiers. Fats have the highest density of calories per unit of mass, as well as proteins needed in physically stressful situations, like infantry warfare. Ask any good drug smuggler or truck driver and they will tell you that increased potency or concentration in a smaller mass is a good thing when transporting long distances.

To soften the economic shock of this new and sudden demand, especially on the heels of the disastrous Hoover and Roosevelt agricultural policies, the government took to all sorts of programs and propaganda designed to get the American consumer to self-ration fats, rather than imposing outright price controls and rationing. One of these had to do with outright lying about the health effects.

Then, after the war was over, the substitute markets and the fellow travelers who sprung up around them saw their fortunes threatened.......so they hired a doctor........who produced a study showing that he studied the population of 7 countries and found animal fats to contribute heavily to the onset of heart diseases and obesity.........The problem was that he actually studied 22 countries and found no causal link in 15 of them, so he threw out that data. To this DAY, that doctor's "study" is the basis for all of this bullshit.........
